PRS Wood Library Custom24 McCarty Thickness Espresso [SN.0340179] [2022 Production Model]
Description
The body top features exquisite flame maple, carefully selected from the vast stock of woods in the PRS Wood Library for its exquisite grain. The appearance of the grain on the finished guitar changes dramatically depending on whether the front or back is used as the surface and the position of the body line. This expert selection ensures that the instrument retains the unique PRS beauty that continues to captivate guitarists, along with its sound. The body back is crafted from one-piece African mahogany. The combination of a maple top and mahogany back is a traditional specification that has been used in guitars from various brands since G’s LP model. For optimal sound quality, we specified the same dimensions as a McCarty, with a body back approximately 4mm thicker than the standard Custom. The thicker back contributes to a richer midrange and a fuller tone. The neck, finished in a patterned thin shape, is crafted from the same carefully selected mahogany as the body back.
The fingerboard and headstock are crafted from African blackwood. Like rosewood, it is a member of the legume family, the Dalbergia genus. Native to Tanzania, Mozambique, and other parts of Africa, it’s also known as grenadilla. The dark part of this guitar is the heartwood, while the sapwood is yellowish-white. The dark heartwood takes 50 to 60 years to mature, making it extremely rare and highly sought after. Due to its exceptional strength and excellent tone after drying, it has long been used for woodwind instruments such as oboes, flutes, clarinets, and bagpipes. Its tone is closest to Brazilian rosewood, and it is also used for the back and sides of high-quality, handcrafted acoustic guitars. The inlays, one of PRS’s signature features, are a special feature exclusive to the Wood Library, based on the commemorative model.
The fingerboard inlay is made of Old School Bord Inaly, a material used until 2010, made from paua shell.
While models other than the Private Stock line typically feature Paul Reed Smith’s signature inlay on the headstock, this particular order features a special Modern Eagle inlay made from the same material.
Furthermore, the fingerboard and headstock feature purfling, a feature previously only found on limited edition models in the regular line, such as the 2015 PRS 30th Anniversary Model. The purfling adds a touch of luxury to the finish.
The pickups are the highly acclaimed 85/15, first used in the PRS 30th Anniversary Model and now also found in the current Custom24 lineup.
These pickups, bearing the year 1985 (the year of the company’s founding) and 2015 (the 30th anniversary), are slightly different from the vintage-toned pickups like the ’57/’08 and ’59/’09. Developed for a modern classic character, they deliver a rich sound with a wide range from high to low end and a punchy, moderate power. Featuring the latest hardware, including a Gen III tremolo bridge and Phase III locking tuners, this guitar features gold hardware, a cost-prohibited option for the regular line. Available in four colors: Cerise, Espresso, Laguna, and Tiger Eye.
These colors are exclusive to the PRS Private Stock lineup, but we’ve selected them for this special occasion. Like the latest models, the top coat is a gloss lacquer finish, giving the guitar a unique texture and natural resonance unlike previous models.
This special model boasts Private Stock-level specifications, including luxurious woods and time-consuming inlays, but is produced under the supervision of the Private Stock team in the regular line.
The included hard case is a paisley-patterned hard case, a design that is included with certain special models, such as Private Stock and Limited Models. This
is a special instrument born from the long-standing relationship between Ikebe Musical Instruments and Paul Reed Smith. It will be produced in limited quantities, so don’t miss out!
