The PRS SE Special Semi-Hollow combines the traditional PRS playability and sound quality with a uniquely innovative sound for players seeking new sonic variety. In addition to the
airy resonance inherent in the semi-hollow body, it features an H-MH (mini-humbucking)-H pickup layout with PRS’s innovative Narrowfield pickup. Furthermore, the intuitive, versatile switching system allows for versatile sound control. The
semi-hollow body construction also contributes to improved sustain and body resonance, while the F-holes add a touch of aesthetic appeal.
The 22-fret, 25-inch scale maple neck is paired with a rosewood fingerboard featuring PRS’s iconic bird inlays, providing exceptional playability and visual appeal.
This model combines two 58/15 LT “S” pickups with a PRS Narrowfield DD “S” in the middle position to deliver a wide range of tones, from warm, deep humbucking tones to vibrant, powerful, chimey single-coil sounds. The PRS

PRS SE
series began in 2001. Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana, who had been using PRS guitars since around 1982, proposed creating a guitar that offered PRS quality at a price accessible to students. Development began in 2001, when the first SE model, the “Santana SE,” was released. For this reason, the SE series is an abbreviation for “Student Edition” or “Santana Edition.”
After repeated upgrades and quality improvements, the SE series is now considered more than just a budget-friendly model; it’s a highly refined line of guitars that are considered “real-world professional guitars,” establishing itself as a series that broadens the appeal and options of PRS Guitars. The SE series, which began production in Indonesia in 2019, boasts even improved quality compared to the previous Korean-made SE series, leading to the emergence of SE collectors.
While the wood quality, finish, and parts differ from those of USA-made PRS guitars, PRS headquarters frequently dispatches engineers to provide direct training, resulting in production lines that follow the same manufacturing process as the USA factory. The wood and parts specifically developed for the PRS SE series are optimized (specification packaging and sound tuning) with the goal of achieving the best sound quality while keeping the price low. As a result, the specifications change and improve over the years. Like all PRS-made guitars, this is the “ism” of guitar craftsman Paul Reed Smith, and it is the essence and appeal of PRS guitars. That’s why the SE series is not simply a “Student Edition,” but a “Special Edition” series.
