PRS Private Stock 40th Anniversary (McCarty Dragon) #00091
Description
Celebrating Four Decades of Craftsmanship & Innovation –
The PRS Private Stock 40th Anniversary McCarty Dragon is a one-of-a-kind guitar that symbolizes the PRS philosophy of guitar craftsmanship, combining unparalleled design, uncompromising playability, and sound.
As a teenager, I dreamed of a guitar with a dragon inlay on the neck. That dream became a reality in 1992, and it has played an important role in PRS history ever since. The reason we chose the McCarty as the base model for the Dragon in celebration of this 40th anniversary is because the original Dragon, released in 1992, inspired the creation of future McCarty models. We are proud to link these two historic PRS models.
– Paul Reed Smith // Founder and Managing General Partner, PRS Guitars
The PRS McCarty was introduced in 1994 and was the first PRS model to feature 22 frets and a focus on vintage sound. Featuring a slightly thicker mahogany back, a stoptail bridge with brass-inserted steel studs, and the latest McCarty III pickups, the Private Stock 40th Anniversary McCarty Dragon is not just a work of art, it’s an instrument made for musicians. The stoptail bridge is designed to maximize string vibration throughout the entire guitar, while the McCarty III pickups deliver a clear, rich sound, perfectly attuned to even the most subtle nuances, like vocals.
The guitar’s most striking aesthetic is its stunning dragon inlay, originally designed by fantasy artist Jeff Easley, known for his work on the Dungeons & Dragons rulebook cover, and recreated by Aulson Inlay. Made of over 200 materials, including blue Pacific opal, brown scale Juma, and gold, black, white, and brown mother-of-pearl, the inlay extends to the truss rod cover, creating a striking effect that seems to leap out from the pale moon ebony fingerboard. The headstock’s Private Stock Eagle inlay is crafted in black with gold web and bordered with gold mother-of-pearl.
I’ve been fortunate to have been involved in the creation of PRS dragon inlays since 2002. Being involved in this project truly makes me feel like I’m part of something truly significant that will be passed down through generations. Each project I’ve worked on with Paul over the years has been incredibly rewarding. Working with him has greatly improved my skills, and sometimes even enabled me to achieve things I never thought possible. Thanks to Paul’s unwavering support and unwavering conviction, the Aulson Inlay team has grown into a truly wonderful collaboration. I also believe that the late Larry Siffert, who worked on the inlays on the PRS Dragon guitars before us and from whom I learned so much, is watching over the dragon inlays we’ve been working on together since 1992.
