The PRS Swamp Ash Special features a swamp ash body, offering a unique look and sonic variety within the Bolt-On series. Its pickup configuration is HSH (humbucker/single/humbucker), featuring two ’58/’15 LT pickups and a PRS Narrowfield pickup in the middle position. Despite its humbucking construction, the Narrowfield pickup delivers the crisp, crisp sound of a single coil. The control section, a first for this model, combines volume, tone, a 5-way blade switch, and two mini-toggle switches for coil taps. This allows for 12 versatile sound-shaping possibilities, from a thick, sweet tone at the tone knob to a vibrant, radiant tone at full throttle.

Featuring a 22-fret, 25-inch scale maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard, PRS’s original tremolo, and Phase III tuners, this model’s appeal lies in the lack of volume difference when switching between humbucking and single-coil pickups, a feature often found in models equipped with these pickups.
