The PRS Studio is a modernized take on the traditional SSH (single-single-humbucker) pickup layout.

This model combines the single-coil sound of the Narrowfield pickups, with the satisfying attack and bite of the McCarty III pickups, in a single instrument. It features PRS’s original Narrowfield pickups in the middle and bass positions, and a McCarty III humbucker in the treble position. Inspired by vintage guitars, the McCarty III pickups deliver a warm, mellow vintage sound. From extensive research into vintage pickups to refined pickup sound analysis and tuning techniques, the McCarty III pickups represent the culmination of all the know-how Paul Reed Smith and the PRS New Product Engineering team have accumulated over the years.

In addition to the three-pickup layout, the tone knob’s push/pull coil tap function allows for a total of seven different sound variations.
