Carlos Santana’s long-standing partnership with Paul Reed Smith has contributed greatly to the fortunes of PRS Guitars. Throughout its history, the company has contributed to this important partnership by releasing a wealth of his signature models and their variations. The Santana Retro was created as a homage to the early “pre-factory” guitars that Paul made for Carlos in the early 1980s. Design features that have been reintroduced in this model include a deeply tapered body shape, an original-style heel, the same headstock shape as the original, and a nut design.

The super-classic combination of maple top + mahogany back, a 24.594-inch (updated from 2024) neck scale, and an original neck shape that reflects Santana’s requests are all orthodox yet full of originality.
The PU is equipped with an original signature pickup, which reproduces that free-flowing sound.

In addition, the 2020 model is equipped with a pickup that has undergone the TCI (Tuned Capacitance & Inductance) process, and has been updated to a high-gloss nitro (lacquer) finish.

In fact, this model has many subtle differences from other lines, such as the back panel recess.
