The Custom 24 is a model synonymous with PRS.

Since its introduction at Winter NAMM in 1985, the Custom 24 has continued to captivate guitarists worldwide with its undeniable playability, sound, and looks, defining the sonic quality of PRS tone.

The latest Custom 24 model also features the patented PRS Gen III tremolo system, PRS 85/15 pickups, and a 5-way blade switch.

The 85/15 pickups, designed by Paul Reed Smith himself, offer a wide range from low to high frequencies and a distinct sound, even when distorted.

Pick up a Custom 24 and play it, and you’ll understand why PRS has grown into such a major guitar brand.

Starting with the 2020 model, the pickups have been upgraded to the “85/15 TCI” pickups, which have undergone the TCI (Tuned Capacitance & Inductance) process. The previous 85/15 pickup wiring has been revised, and simply changing the winding method has dramatically transformed the sound. The clean sound is noticeably clearer and softer than the previous model. The harsh highs have been reduced, and the balance has shifted slightly toward the bass, creating a more mellow feel. The crunch sound in particular is also very pleasant, and feels somewhat closer to a McCarthy-style model. Honestly, I wonder if it’s really worth going this far?!

Also, in 2024, PRS Guitars updated the tuning pegs used on many Core models to improve sound quality.
It’s highly unlikely that the metal button pegs used on this model will be available in the future.
