The John Mayer signature model “PRS Silver Sky” is now available!

Not only is he a talented guitarist, but his vocal and songwriting abilities are also renowned, making him a household name and a Grammy Award-winning artist. The Silver Sky, completed over two and a half years ago to meet John Mayer’s wishes, is an innovative, newly designed PRS guitar in PRS’s history.

The PRS Silver Sky features an original PRS single-coil pickup designed to capture the sound of vintage guitars manufactured between 1963 and 1964, a period beloved by John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith. It also features a design concept that sets it apart from the past.

The result of two years of research and development, the Silver Sky delivers the distinct sound that both John and Paul sought. It features a wealth of original PRS parts designed and developed exclusively for this guitar’s sound and playability. The PRS trademark

headstock shape has been redesigned to be reverse to better suit John Mayer’s playing style, while the increased distance from the nut to the tuners further enhances tuning stability.

The tuners are traditional vintage-style Kluson-type, but feature PRS original tuning machines with the PRS locking system. The original steel tremolo arm is flush with the body in its neutral position. While this setting limits the bridge’s movement to pitch down, the increased contact area between the bridge and body enhances the natural resonance of the body, resulting in a dynamic sound and improved signal-to-noise ratio for single-coil pickups.

The 635JM pickup is an original PRS pickup developed exclusively for the Silver Sky, and is characterized by its wide range and fat, crispy sound.

The Silver Sky’s fingerboard is available in either rosewood or maple, with both having a 7.25″ fingerboard radius. The neck with a rosewood fingerboard has a slightly more rounded shoulder, making it more comfortable for the palm of the hand. The shape of both fingerboard necks was derived from meticulous research of vintage guitars and numerous tests conducted by John Mayer himself on stage. The

molded jack plate, a completely original design that allows for smooth insertion and removal of plugs, is also an idea that could only be conceived with the guitar in mind, as it is designed for use in live performances.
