The pickups are arranged in an HSH (humbucker/”single”/humbucker) configuration, with two 58/15 LT pickups and a PRS Narrowfield in the middle position. Although the Narrowfield has a humbucker structure, it produces a crisp sound unique to single coils. The control section is the first combination of volume, tone, a 5-way blade switch, and two mini toggle switches for coil taps for this model. From a thick and sweet sound when the tone is turned down to a sparkling sound with a core when fully opened, 12 diverse sound making has been achieved.

Featuring a 22-fret, 25-inch scale maple neck and fingerboard, PRS original tremolo, and Phase III tuners, this model is unique in that there is no volume difference when switching between humbucker and single-coil pickups, a feature that is often found in models equipped with these pickups.

The PRS Swamp Ash Special Maple produces a pleasant, twangy sound with tight lows and bright highs with a good attack, making it a versatile model for a wide range of genres, from country to blues to jazz.
