The Firebird returns to the Gibson USA lineup!

Beginning in 1965, the original Firebird design evolved with several iterations.
One of the most significant was the move to a “non-reverse” headstock shape. Unlike
the original reverse design, which featured a two-ply headstock made of holly veneer, the new headstock
had a flat platypus-like shape.
This “platypus” style Firebird had six-tuners per side instead of the banjo pegs found on previous models. The
Firebird Platypus pays tribute to this rare transitional model.

The body is made of mahogany and has the original reverse Firebird body shape, with a set neck and a neck-through construction.
The mahogany neck has a slim taper profile, rosewood fingerboard, Platypus-style headstock, and Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners. The
Platypus-style headstock has been fine-tuned to allow the strings to be aligned in a straight line from the neck, reducing friction and improving tuning stability.
The Firebird is one of the most distinctive looking guitar designs, and the Firebird Platypus takes this legendary guitar to the next level with its unique look.
The tone is just as unique as the look. Equipped with two crisp, original-spec Alnico 5 Firebird mini humbucking pickups, they produce a bell-like sound when played clean and a rock/blues tone that stands out in a band ensemble when distorted.
Each pickup has its own volume and tone, allowing for detailed sound shaping, and the pickguard is hot-stamped with the familiar Firebird graphics.
A hardshell case is included.
