Fender Lead I (Black) 79-81 [B Grade]
Description
This 1979-1981 Lead I guitar features a single rear humbucker and is in stock!
The body is ash. The headstock serial number and the serial sticker on the neck cavity match. Both pots have been replaced with recent CTS models, making it impossible to determine the year of manufacture. Headstock serial numbers for this period range from 1979 to 1984. The neck is made of maple with a round-laminated rosewood fingerboard. The scale is a standard 25 1/2, with a nut width of approximately 41mm. The 3-way switch allows you to select single-ended pickups/humbuckers/single-ended pickups at the neck, while the 2-way switch at the back switches between series and parallel pickups when the humbucker is selected. The presence of the original single-ended pickup cavity at the neck and the aluminum foil covering the entire back of the original pickguard indicate this is a 1979-1981 model. The nut and frets are original.
The body has some wipe marks, scratches, and burn marks from the stand. There are scratches on the lower edge of the top of the body and a scratch on the lower right corner. The tip of the horn on the 6th string side shows some paint reaction with the case lining. There are large burn marks on both sides of the strap pin at the end of the body. What a shame! It would be perfect without these marks… There are scratches on the lower outer edge of the back of the body. There are small impact scratches on the outer edge of the headstock. The hardware has some tarnish, but no noticeable signs of use.
The neck is in good condition, and the truss rod can be adjusted to tighten or loosen. There are no string marks on the frets, and about 80% of the frets remain. The current string height is set to approximately 2.0mm on the 6th string side at the 12th fret and approximately 1.5mm on the 1st string side.
Overall, there are no noticeable signs of use other than the pot replacement and burn marks on the stand, and the guitar is in good condition. Just look at the finish on the back of the neck to see how good it is. The Lead series was previously revived in Mexico, but as you know, this “I” model was never reissued. This is a long-awaited original! The body has a single-size cavity on the front, making it perfect for customizing into an “SS” or “SH” model! Even so, it’s a shame that the stand is burned!
