The PRS Silver Sky features PRS’s original single-coil pickups, designed to capture the sound of John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith’s beloved vintage guitars, particularly those manufactured between 1963 and 1964. It also features a design concept that sets it apart from the past. The result of two years of research and development, the Silver Sky delivers the distinct sound that John and Paul were aiming for. It also features a wealth of PRS-exclusive parts designed and developed specifically for this guitar’s sound and playability. While the headstock shape is a PRS trademark, it has been redesigned with a reverse headstock to better suit John Mayer’s playing style, while the increased distance from the nut to the tuners further enhances tuning stability.

The tuners are traditional vintage-style Kluson-type pegs with PRS’s original locking system. The original steel tremolo arm is flush against the body in a neutral position. This setting allows the bridge to move only in pitch down, but by increasing the contact area between the bridge and the body, it enhances the natural resonance of the body, leading to a dynamic sound and improved signal-to-noise ratio for the single-coil pickups. The 635JM pickups are PRS originals developed exclusively for the Silver Sky, and are characterized by their wide range and fat, crisp sound.

The Silver Sky’s fingerboard is available in either rosewood or maple, with both having a 7.25″ fingerboard radius. The neck with a rosewood fingerboard has a slightly more rounded shoulder, making it more comfortable for the palm of the hand. The shape of both fingerboard necks was derived from meticulous research of vintage guitars and numerous tests conducted by John Mayer himself on stage. The molded jack plate, a completely original design that allows for smooth insertion and removal of plugs, is also an idea that could only be conceived with the guitar in mind, as it is designed for use in live performances.

We hope that the Silver Sky, created by John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith, will become a new option for guitarists around the world, regardless of musical genre, including rock, blues, jazz, and funk.
