The McCarty Singlecut 594 was crafted for superior playing comfort and warm, vintage tone. Its key specifications include a 22-fret, 24.594″ scale length bound Pattern Vintage neck with a slightly thicker back for enhanced tone and sustain, and 58/15 LT+ treble and bass pickups that have undergone TCI (Tuned Capacitance and Inductance) processing. The 58/15 LT+ pickups deliver exceptional clarity, a rich midrange, and vintage character. The bridge is a two-piece zinc alloy stoptail bridge with brass saddles and studs for enhanced resonance, and the tuners are vintage-style.

In the late 1980s, Paul Reed Smith asked Ted McCarty to consult on guitar design and manufacturing techniques. McCarty became not only a mentor but also a dear friend to Paul and all the staff he met at PRS. In 1994, the first McCarty guitar was released, incorporating the techniques and knowledge he learned from Ted, as well as Ted’s own experience as a guitar builder.

In 2024, PRS Guitars updated the tuning pegs used on many Core models to improve sound quality. The new wing buttons, designed with a bird inlay motif at the 12th fret, are lighter than the previous metal peg buttons, reducing string vibration loss and producing longer sustain and a more musical sound.
