The McCarty 594 Hollowbody II adds a new feature set to PRS’s popular series. The fully hollow Hollowbody II delivers a warm, woody tone. Other details are inherited from the McCarty 594, which exudes a vintage feel unique to this series. The 58/15 LT pickups have undergone the TCI (Tuned Capacitance and Inductance) process, resulting in a clearer, more musical tone, while the dual volume and push-pull tone controls offer versatile sound. The zinc alloy two-piece bridge and vintage-style tuners are a defining feature of this model and a hallmark of the McCarty family.

Whether you’re looking for a rich, “true humbucking” tone or a nuanced, sweet single-coil sound, the McCarty 594 Hollowbody II delivers. Other specifications include a bound 22-fret, 24.594″ scale Pattern Vintage neck, rosewood fingerboard, and PRS bird inlays.

late 1980s, Paul Reed Smith asked Ted McCarty to consult on guitar design and manufacturing techniques. McCarty became not only a mentor but also a dear friend to Paul and everyone he met at PRS. In 1994, McCarty released his first McCarty, incorporating the techniques and knowledge he learned from Ted, as well as his own experience as a guitar builder.

Unlike the Hollowbody II, this model features a two-piece bridge, a “Pattern Vintage” neck shape similar to the McCarty 594, a coil tap, and a bound fingerboard, giving it a classic look.
The scale length is a standard 24.594 inches, and the strings are set up at .010-.046.

The pickups are vintage-style 58/15 LT pickups that have undergone the TCI (Tuned Capacitance & Inductance) process to enhance clarity and midrange focus
. The sound offers exceptional clarity, a rich midrange, and vintage character.

The grain and sound are superb, and, perhaps due to its construction, it is also extremely lightweight.
The softness of the sound is exceptional, making this model a popular choice for clean-tone genres such as jazz fusion.

Starting with the 2024 model, the tuning machine buttons have been updated to feature wing tuning machines designed to resemble the Cooper’s Hawk bird inlay at the 12th fret.
These wing tuning machines are based on Paul’s original 1982 design and are lighter than the older metal tuning machines, resulting in less decay in the midrange and sustain, longer sustain, and a more musical sound.
